52 Weeks of Gratitude: Week 1

As I was scrolling through Pinterest (which has become a daily drug to me) I happened upon a pin titled “52 weeks of gratitude.”  The picture  was a list of 52 things to be thankful about.  Over the past two years I have struggled with anxiety, and often have even felt constricted to feel positive or see the bright side of the picture.  It has completely controlled my daily actions, and forced me to look at the negative aspects of my life, such as how I view myself in the mirror, rather than looking at all of the great things I have going for myself.  Anxiety has been the monster under the bed that won’t go away when I pull the covers over my head in an attempt to hide from the world.

A few weeks ago amidst one of my anxiety attacks, my mother told me that every morning I should write down the things that I am thankful for.  She explained that seeing this list each day has helped her realize there are so many things in her life that should make her excited and happy to live another day on this earth.  It has put things into perspective for her, and made her see what positive things surround and fill her life.  So likewise I am going to post once a week according to the picture to show my gratitude towards, in hopes to truly see and appreciate all that I have.

I hope that this will help you too realize that there is always something to be happy about.  No matter how bad one day may seem, there is ALWAYS one thing in your life to excited about.  If you want to also be apart of the challenge, find the 52 week list here: http://localadventurer.com/52-weeks-of-gratitude-challenge-complete/

Thank you for sharing the challenge! I hope you are continuing to work on it. I’ve been struggling with depression for so many years, and while it does not simply go away from doing exercises, it has helped a lot. 🙂
